Squiggly Career Students
Talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t. A student from a disadvantaged background who gains a first-class degree from a top university is less likely to secure an elite job than a more privileged student with a 2.2.
That’s why we’ve created Squiggly Career Students, a three-year programme with social mobility charity upReach, supporting 32 university students from low-income backgrounds to start and succeed at work.

What is Squiggly Career Students?
Careers aren’t ladders anymore; they’re squiggly. And because they’re squiggly, students don’t need to have it all figured out. Instead, they can explore, experiment and build a career that reflects their unique strengths and values.
Squiggly Career Students combines Squiggly Careers’ practical tools with upReach’s tailored support to help 32 students build on their skills, confidence and networks so they can shape a career that’s right for them.
What do students get?
〰 Workshops and events that help students build skills employers value most, like critical thinking and resilience.
〰 One-to-one coaching, plus mock interviews, mentoring, careers support and employer insight.
〰 A community of 31 other Squiggly Career Students and the wider Squiggly Careers community for peer support and career conversations.
〰 Practical help with CVs, LinkedIn and storytelling to help students spotlight their strengths.
〰 Paid work experience, including an option to work on the 30 to 30,000 project to scale Squiggly tools to the 30,000 disadvantaged students entering university each year.
